Trying to get BobCAD v24 to cut internally

    Hey all,
New user to BobCAD here and got a question that I think has a simple answer.

I have a wheel rim that I am making for a model truck (12 rims total). I cannot get the program to cut my contour internally. It wants to cut on the outside of the rim. I am attaching my drawing and a picture of what I am trying to do. I made the one rim manually, but it would be nice to do the next 11 by pushing a button on a screen. I want to cut the first part of the straight, the angled lip, and then the straight part to the next angled lip. I will then flip it over and cut the other straight part and the 2nd angle.

I drew the profile of the rim as if I took one slice out of it. BC is cutting from the top of the profile and I need it to cut from the bottom.

The aluminum stock is 3" OD and 2.25" ID.

I have the BC training videos coming and I am in the process of downloading Sorin's videos so my answer may be there. Thought I'd run it by here too.

    Thanks
    Mike

    ANY ideas?

I was looking at this file in the other day... It takes me longer because i dont know lqathe work very well.

Selecting the 4th tool position in the feature moves it to the other side... You had a question about stepping in, and this toolpath DOES Step in to the material..

Is there something I am missing?

Here is one more picture. According to this, everything is where it should be. My stock is just a little wider than my profile, and my profile is almost centered in the stock. This leaves some room to turn the diameter down and for the internal boring.

I know it is something stupid that I'm doing wrong...just can't figure it out.

jharvey...yeah...I know burrman is like one of the gods of BobCAD here. He helped me out on a processor issue already.

Interesting. I tried that. Well...mine are numbered 5-6-7-8 and I think I have to use 8 in place of your 4...but nothing happened.

Is there something I need to do to regenerate everything?

edit: just went back and tried this and mine are now numbered 1-2-3-4 again...anyway...when I change it to 4, i get the previous picture that leaves that "ring" in the center.

I'm using geometry to click on the three lines that I want cut. I tried contours and it gives the same results.

I think you have a "rough and finish" op in it now? The first file just has a rough, which is the 1234, then if there is a finish, the finish tools will be 5678...

So yes, 8 for the finsih tool also.

    Oh. OK. That makes sense.

Do I need to "re-generate" the drawing somehow when I change the tool orientation?

    Wrong direction

    Hi,

I'm using bobcad version 23 but it should be the same so don't worry. The reason your not able to machine the inside is because the tool path of your end mill needs to be counter clockwise & on the left side of the profile your machining. If your climb milling, which is what you want to do. You need to create a contour on top of the geometry you've drawn. If the direction is wrong then reverse it. In V23 the contour can be found in the "other" menu. The reverse contour can be found in the "utilities" menu.

    Good luck

You have a lathe rough feature added.. Inside of that feature is a selection for the type of op... Are you using a turning rough/finish or a facing rough/finish?

The lathe side has usually auto regenerated the toolpath on any feature change, but some areas may require a regenerate toolpath...

Can you attach the file you are working with now? It looks like the one I have from the other day, but i am not at home to view it.

Hi eric, it's a lathe file.. Although using a conyour with IT is also very good advice.

To be able to travel to the opposite side of the rim, will need a second feature, with the tool orientation changed so it will engage without crashing the machine.
