Is it worth upgrading from 23 to 24?

I have been searching this form and not found the answer to this question

But Im sure it has been asked.

I really think I have 23 making well productive code, Even 3d stuff is working
rather well from customer supplied files such as .sldprt and .stl

The training disks have proven invaluable, Without them, I would be lost

22 was a disaster, and BobCad took sympathy on me and gave me a really good
deal on 23, and I have added on Equidistant and BobArt, The Bob Art I rarely
    use

I do know from many hours of fiddling with the lathe side, 23 will not generate
a true tool nose radius comp path, it just plain does not work, I can only
assume this was not fixed in the new version.

I am reading about problems with Predator on 24 I really dont have time to
fiddle with these type of problems, I payed Xtra for back plotting on 23, I use it
often, Its a third party software, and can be a bit cumbersome, but it works

So anyhow, Im sure this is a can of worms, I am getting calls from the Florida
area code, and ignoring them for moment.

    Thoughts?

I was asking a friend that I bought mine thru the same question. And he said

As far as Bobcad goes V24 does not use dongles…So whatever PC you put it on that it until you call and have it moved to another one…I would still wait on upgrading as V25 will be out soon and for what you get from upgrading from V23 to V24 is very little…So save your cash

    So I'm gonna wait

Thanks, The dongle thing has me concerned as well, I have had to
re load 23 a couple of times from virus issues or the software completely
    crashing.

Its also nice to be able to take the dongle home for work

It was a great upgrade for us. They made some memory managment changes that allows me to load datasets that V23 was unable to work with... We are in the process of pushing out some stuff we couldnt do before.

The advanced roughing is more powerful than the older Z-level, although we believe the older Z-level still has it's place, we will prove this to ourselves over the next few months.

Didnt have any problems with predator or any install or licensing issues. I have seen a couple guys question the predator backplotting, but fixed it within a few minutes of posting... Surely an old V23 post may need to be updated to preview correctly. We just downloaded a new V24 post and threw our personal customizations in in a few minutes. The licensing took about 16 seconds on the internet.

All in all, it is far better than V23 for us.

If you want to know how the Lathe is working, post an example file with a feature added and I'll look at it. I may need to ask some questions because I'm not much of a Lathe guy.

I upgraded just after V24 was released. I have not had any real problems although I am doing mainly 2.5D.
I used my V23 custom post processor and have not had any problems.

By far the best improvement to me is the contour ramping in the profile milling. That gives me more accurate parts without a divot at the plunge.

I have used the lathe side a little and so far I haven't used the system or the machine nose radius comp.

For me 23 pro gets it done for now, Ill wait till 25 comes out as well, maybe 26, as 23 is quite workable.

I had 23 and decided the machining options that were added would help me and I don't regret it. I do wish I still had my dongle though. I have several PCs that I use traveling and I find it very hard to get Bobcad to call me back when I need to transfer a license. I know the last time, I called left the message on the answering service and got a call back 8 business days later.

I also like the new layout and menus better. Overall, I like it better than 23 and haven't used 23 since.

Looks like you have answered your own question to me, you say what you have now works fine for the type of work you are doing so I would say stick with what you have till you NEED something different.

You`re right, the Lathe side isn`t any better, best to just disable all the BobCAD TNR and use your machine controls offsets, better way to do it anyway IMHO

    Regards
    Rob

    Upgrade w/o dongle

If the issue is a crash theres no need to worry , just call we will re-register the software no-problem.

Dongles are nice but no longer offered - Negotiate additional seats with your sales rep.

I do work in support so my viewpoint might be partial to Bcc, but V24 had many basic things that were addressed like better cutter comp and tool database & offsets, The small things like this make useability a-lot better.
If your worry is that V25 is coming out dont worry , 1. It's still a ways off, 2. If you have upgraded this is taken into consideration for pricing. 3. If it comes out within a month or two of when you upgraded call us and we will get you taken care of. BobCAD always has specials for those that have just upgraded and always has a certain time limit (I think its 30 days) that would include the next version for those "In-between" upgrade times.

    Engine Guy "De-Auth Code"

This Is only the case when the re-registration is habitual and points out a problem, You probably should not have been denied an access code if you had a computer crash, call me and I can fix this for you. 727-489-0003 Or PM me.
