    Positioning Text

Hey Guys- So I am trying to draw a rectangle with text in the middle Version 23. I don't want the text centered though. I want the text centered up and down but set 1" off the left edge of the rectangle. I am making 200 different name plates and trying to find the easiest way to do this. So it's a 3" x 30" rectangle with a name inside. Then I am going to plasma cut them out. I just can't find anywhere of how to "place" the text in a certain place. Like when you create a rectangle you can give it coordinates and tell it which corner to measure from, is there anything like this for text? Any help would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks!
    -Nate

I had a go at this for you and I see what you mean. It looks to me like the snap point of the text is bottom middle. If you de-select DRAG and type some text and press OK the text snaps to X0,Y0 (you will see what I mean)
As a work around you could do this then Translate the text to where you want it, or you could place a Point where you think the bottom middle of the text should be select DRAG and click on your point as a position.
I will be watching this Thread with interest.

EDIT:- I think I have found an answer +(AutoCAD statement deleted)

Write your text an place anywhere on the screen
Now draw a temporary line 1 inch from the LH end of your box and 1/2 the text hight down from the middle.
Now select FIT TEXT TO CURVE from the drop down menu.
    Make sure LEFT is selected
LEFT click your text to select it then click on the RH side of your line making sure the arrow that appears is pointing to the right.
Now Shift Click the righthand end of the line and your Text should snap in place.
You can now delete you temp line if needed
As usual there is a way in BobCAD but its not alway that obvious.
    Hope this helps

Place a point somewhere that you want to place some particular part of the text. When you create the text, click the "vectorize" button. Now you can use translate with the sketch/enter option and pick-pick selected for start and end... Select all the text and OK. Then "shift clcik" an entity of the text that you want to use as a reference. The snap points will become visible. Select one and Now clcik the point where you wanted it moved to.

If you're gonna cut your plate at the same time, you can type the first name, press enter type the second ...ect...this list will all start at the same place. If you choose your font size to fit you should be able to create a file with as many name as your stock permit.
Just use translate to move the list, no need to vectorize just yet.
    create your rectangle as needed.
Might have to vectorize if you want to create letters that the inside dont fall out.
But this might not apply to your project.
Pressing enter twice will space them more.

Thanks a ton for the help guys!!! Both ways work well. I think for my application though winaa yours will work better. reason being is i only want to position this once and then change the name over and over 200 times. Burrman, your way would work great for a few names but doing 200 of them that means I would have to start from scratch each time since I would vectorize the names. where as winaa states i can just position the text there and then edit the text over and over again. So i very much appreciate all your guy's help!!! Now I gotta get typing :-)
