    Profiling Question

    Hello,

    I have a serpentine pulley that I'm attempting to create on my mill (don't have a lathe) and did some test cuts with the appropriate pitched cutter and the grooves that I want to produce look decent. I began with a profile operation with the lead being circular. This allowed the cutter to come in from the side (not the top) and make a pass around with the fly cutter cutting .010. I also turned on Cutter Comp which allowed me at the machine to adjust the cutter diameter each pass around taking more until the cut was to depth.

    My question: In BOBCad, how would I achieve this same affect not changing anything at the machine? For example, I make Cut 1 (tool diameter 3.0), Cut 2 (tool diameter 2.90), Cut 3 (tool diameter 2.98), Cut 4 (etc...) each of them would have to be a different tool definition in BOBCad with different tool diameter and physically at the machine??

    I'm probably making this more complicated but attached is a visual of what I'm doing.

    Couple ways to do this:

    1. Side Allowance value under the Parameter tab.
    This can be positive or negative value.
    Will make 1 pass with leadin/out.
    Must use Offset Rt/Lt (not Comp Rt/Lt)

    2. Stock Remaining + # of Side Rough Passes
    Example: Enter .1 for stock and 4 passes, it will compute 4 passes of .025 radial DOC.
    The pattern will be: Leadin...1 pass...feed in to next pass depth...1 pass....feed in ..etc. ...then leadout.
    Again, must use Offset Rt/Lt (not Comp Rt/Lt)

    Here is what I got using a 3.000 dia. cutter.
    Stepping down also.
