BobCad V20 question

I downloaded the demo version at the beginning of the year and completed all the tutorials. It seems to be very easy to use but unfortunately by the end of the 30 day trial I didn't get a chance to explore and play around with it much. I don't recall seeing anything in the menus about point clouds. Are there any commands that allow importing and editing of point cloud files?

You are correct, there is no menu command to import a point cloud, however, I've imported them using scripts. Hard or easy depends on the format of the point data file. Can you provide a sample?

I don't have any samples. I'm mostly interested in compatability between the DeskCnc touch probe and various CAM programs. DeskCNC writes the point data to a .stl file. Does BobCad have anything like a drape command similar to what's used in Rhinoceros?

If you doing a survey, contact CNCdude. He would know...and would want your survey to be accurate.

Point Cloud

Currently BobCAD-CAM does not support the importation of point cloud files. This is an option that we have considered for the future.

Thanks for the info guys. No, I'm not doing any surveys; just comparing features of some CAM programs for personal use.

Alnicov,
If you are interested in assisting in the development of BobCAD-CAM for the addition of "point cloud" surface generation, it would be great. This is a function we intend to add and if you have a few of these files please let me know. This way we can get to work on adding this as a function in the Surface Creation box. You can email me at chris@bobcad.com if you would like.
Sincerely,
CNC Dude
