I ran into a problem while working a new job today. I was closing an angle in a bend on a small 6061 Aluminum tab. The tab roughly measures 1.375 x .5 x .125 thick, with a full radius on both ends. The tabs were previoiusly bent on the centerline of the width at a 12 degree angle. What I needed to do was increase the angle of the bend to 20 deg +/- 2 deg. Dealing with springback is always a fun thing to do lol. I found my solution through the trusted 'trial and error' method, but I am curious if there are any formulas out there for springback on aluminum flat stock. I found quite a feew for tubing, but obviously, that isnt what I needed. Can anyone point me in the right direction for future jobs? |

| You can bend sample small and large bends, measure the angles achieved and use this to calculate the proportional and fixed springback which will give you the overbend angle. Of course this assumes the springback will remain constant within a batch, in reality there will be small variation which depending on your tolerance may or may not matter. Depending on how you are doing the bends in process checking may be possible |
