Stainless steel forge welding

I would like to forge-weld some small pieces of stainless rod. Can anyone outline the steps to do this for me?

You should really ask this question on one of the blacksmithing forums- either anvilfire.com or keenjunk.com.
but the consensus among the pros is- while technically possible, this almost never works. the flux you have to use is nasty, hard to find, and expensive- should contain fluorspar, as I recall. Stainless steel doesnt like to be forge welded, and will resist you all the way. Works best in an inert atmosphere- ie. nitrogen or argon. Hard to breathe in there, though. And expensive. Yes, there are a few real magicians who are able to do this, but even they rarely do.
Stainless forges great, but for welding you are gonna be a lot happier tig welding it.
