Ahhh, it's the fractions. The answer is so obvious now that you explained it. Initially, I thought it was such an odd number. Maybe all mills have odd numbers. Intuitively, just expected something round for inch screws...like .2" per crank turn.
Thanks.

its probably easier to train the children working on these machines that way.. sketch..

With .166" you would need 6 turns per inch of travel and at .100" you would need 10 turns. And with the high school students I see coming out of school now-a-days counting to 6 is a challenge for most of them let alone all the way to 10.

I've actually got a BSME. I could help you with non-linear 3rd-order partial differential equations....but I never got the fractions thing...lol.

Thought I'd post a few pics since uploads seem to be working again.
Sure is a perty thang.

Some of the specs will need verification. The vertical travel of 17" on the PM-25V is in error and is closer to 13". I had called them yesterday and they did a quick measurement.

Jeez Hoss, ya scared me. For a second there it looked like a round-column mill with that drill press sitting behind it!

Yeah, there are a couple of items in the specs that are a bit odd. Like the table sizes being the same and yet the travels are different by over 2 inches? I got the PM-25 so when it gets here I'll measure the travels. I will be a bit angry if the motor specs are wrong, I took it that the extra power was a part of the price difference on it.

Hey, is that little drill press from sears? I've had one since '81.

so the differences between the 20 and 25 are simply spindle motor horsepower? Or if the travels they list are correct, you get more X on the 20, but more Z on the 25.

If Grizzly is going to be a long wait, I might just get one from MTW (they are in Canada which helps).

That's right, all you guys should cancel your grizzly orders and get the PM mills so you can have it like tommorow., But wait on the electonics till after I get mine so they're not back ordered as well.

Brian

PS-I feel like I'm moving up the list quickly.........LOL

the 20v / lv is supposed to be lower power and mt2 taper.
the 25v / lv is more power and r8.

those are the only differences from weiss, but each oem seems to be able to alter the specs to their own needs.

for example MTW took the bf20 models and requested r8 in them which isnt standard form the opti factory.

as for the travels being different, this is likely just the way the limit stops are set up. it could also be a revision in the saddle casting that allows more movement on the grizzly. theres been a number of tweaks to the mills over the years by the look of things. the 2 may also not be from the same factory either.
