is x2 much louder than x1?

I had an x1 and swapped it for an x2. The x2 seems to be much louder than the x1. It has a much higher pitched whiney sound. The x1, was relatively quiet. Is this normal?

It's just that I used to be able to get close to the x1 without it hurting my ears, however with the x2 it hurts my ear if I'm really close to the machine. I get close to the machine sometimes to see different angles.

Anyone wear hearing protection when using these small mills?

Might be the stand underneath it that amplifies the noise. I reduced a good portion of the noise now that my X2 sits on a big foam archery target (with a plank in between for stability).

Convert to a belt drive and you'll hear a big difference.
