Hi grf, you might want to have a look at this thread: Weiss Milling Machines - the Weiss machines seem to be very similar to the BF20/BF30.
I've just bought a BF30 equivalent a few weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with it so far.
Hi everyone
i am ready to buy a bf20 or bf30
i liked the bf 20 as it is very quite during operation but i am not sure if the machine will do for steel work.
the bf30 is very noise but the sales person said it is going to improve as everything wears in. what are your thoughts about the two machines?
also does anyone know where i can find a bf30 user manual?
thanks

today i believe is pick up day.
the price difference between the two was around to 950us but the bf30 comes standard with a very nice stand (looks cast) and some tooling. i do not know a lot about these things but everywhere i looked they say bigger is better so i said what the heck and picking up the big one. i do not knoe how excactly i am going to install it in my garage but will see what happens.
i already "asked" (more like forced lol) the mated to be there tonight but a crane is not an option so i guess i have to take the machine apart and assemble it on the stand. i hope the gear nose does not freak out the neighbors
It's probably a good idea to take it apart to clean off the shipping grease anyway, but please be careful - the table and head are pretty heavy, and I'd imagine the column and base are even worse!
Personally I don't find the gear noise all that bad - I need to get out my decibel meter and measure it, but it reminds me of a quiet washing machine to be honest. The noise it'll make if you end up chattering through cast iron with a large face mill will be rather less neighbour friendly IMHO!
do you have the 3gear head machine or 2 gear?
My machine has a low and high gear - low is good for about 750 rpm, and high about 2250, and it has a 1100W motor.
well that is probably why you do not have a problem.
the one i bought has 3 gears and it was quite loud when tested it.
the salesman said it will improve after break in and after changing to different type of oil

i just finished installing the machine (i would say get it in to be exact).
it is a really heavy beast and i thing the 260kgr it is rated are not correct (looks like 350 to me lol). it was really funny try to raise it from the garage roof. four mates including me tried really hard to put the machine on the stand. o boy we spend 45 min arguing if the beam would hold or not. at the end i decided to take the head off to be safe and then install it again. i even had a chance to make my very first chips although the machine is not bolted on the stand or leveled or the stand stable on the ground. it was a very long and interesting day. soon photos and impressions.
so here are a few photos
