argh so ive decided to swap what im going to do once again

A while back i sent emails to a couple of unemployed welders via craigslist... asking if they would help me weld a stand for something. I want to run by what i think is my final version. It is 48" front to back and 48" left to right. Do you guys think i will have enough room left to right... or should i make it a little wider...

the frame will be steel but wood panels will be bolted on. if anyone is interested on how i plan to attatch everything ive loaded the .dxf of a f/s/t view of the enclosure.

cheers!

p.s. now that i have autocad i really should try to get ahold of a program that works directly with autocad... dolphin is useless unless your importing a .dra and autocad is a million times better then dolphin cad..

EDIT: does anybody think i would be able to weld the frame together with my oxy/acet torch? its a great bit of kit... victor torch, b tanks...

Teyber,

My enclosure's inside dimensions are 49 inches wide by 39 inches deep.

The mill is offset to the right. What basically means is the mill is not centered it is 18 inches away from the left side and 12 inches from the right side. So the mill sits on a plate that is 19 inches wide. This provides the needed clearance for the stepper that is mounted on the left side of the mill table (CNC Deluxe Fusion with Keling Steppers).

The mill will be mounted so that there is about 2 inches of clearance between the Z-axis cover and the inside of the back wall, which should provide enough room to remove the cover without having to lift the mill from the enclosure.

So your make your enclosure another inch wider and have the mounts for the mill offset to the right.

Paul

Not true Teyber. I import .dxf files into Dolphin quite often from Autocad.

maybe i should re-install windows but i drew a pretty complicated file in autocad, loaded it into dolphin cad to make profiles, then loaded it into dolphin cam and it could not figure out the profiles. i spent almost 2 hours fiddling with it until i decided to just re-draw it in partmaster cad which takes a lot longer and is more cumbersome to draw parts in compared to autocad.. its probably something im doing but frustrating none the less..

viper: thanks bud! i decided to make it 60" wide and have the mill offset 6" to the right

Yeah I dont use dolphin for the CAD much. Only if its something simple. But then again, i didnt buy dolphin to draw with. Its very nice for my machining needs tho.

Import to dcad, select your profiles before passing directly to cam. I find it much easier that way
