I currently have a "KX1" from Littlemachineshop.com (see picture), which I am very happy with, but I would like to move up to a KX3 size machine for the extra work envelope. I have narrowed my options down to two strategies; 1. Buy a "X3" and convert it to CNC using the complete Promica CNCKits which includes there controller, double ball nut upgrade and spindle upgrade to 4000RPM is about $3,600. I would then need to add spindle speed control and stand. 2. Buy the Novatron NM-135. Even with import duties and delivery the NM-135 is only about $1,000 more. It seems a no brainer that the NM-135 route is the better of the two as the mill will be tested and ready to go (although I will have to disassemble it to get it up the stairs to my office (see photo's). Am I missing anything? Thanks David |

| Seems like a no brainer to me too. the NM-135 goes to 6000 rpm, 1.5 HP, 13.75 X and 8 inches Y travel. Much better than the specs for a KX3 or converted X3 and even cheaper than some are charging like Smithys version. You could look into renting a stair climbing handtruck like a Powermate. No disassembly required. Hoss

| I am in a similar situation, but I will probably be going with the NM-135. I could save money by building my own X3, but the NM-135 comes with a larger work envelope, 6000 rpm spindle, it's ready to go, and from what I have read, the service/support is top notch.

| The NM-135 was an even better deal when they had a No-stand, No electronics but motors deal for $3600. This class machine really needs a stand with cooling enclosure, so the supplied stand may be quickly outgrown. It is possible to modify the X3 travel--my SX3 travel is x: 18 inch, Y, 8 inch, Z, 18 inch--but there's no disputing the value of a quality ready-to-go machine like the NM-135. The Novakon shipping is a lot more than what Grizzly charges though. CR. |

| Check out Sunbelt Rentals, enter your zip for locations. They have the Powermate listed but you may want to call 1st. Hoss
