    Second MaxNC 10CL-B project

I finished cutting my second MaxNC 10CL-B project.

I made a patch plate for 16 XLR audio connectors. I'm still running the Max siftware in DOS and did all the G-code work in a text editor with a calculator and a scratch pad.

I've been learning a lot here at the site and wanted to share some good news.

    best regards,
    mike

Nice work Mike! I feel your pain with MaxNC software. Creating G-Code from scratch is a mind-numbing experience!

I have a CNC router I built 10 yrs ago with their stepper/controller motion control kit. Mine has the the DOS control software as well which works fine for me and is very stable.

The "Mill" CAM program they supplied gave me fits until I stumbled onto ACEConverter, a free .dxf/G-Code conversion program at http://www.dakeng.com/ace.html I'm sure there are many others available now that'll do the same thing but ACE really helped me. I assume you do CAD?

    Keep up the good work.

    Nice

Nice work. Did you make the tooling plate too?

I recently picked up a used MaxNC machine without a controller or spindle. I've got stepper drivers wired up and running in EMC, and now I've started working on a servo driven spindle. Hopefully I'll be making chips soon!

Thanks to everyone for the nice remarks.

My wife purhased the tooling plate.

I made the jig out of MDF "wood" and aluminum stock.

The piece is 19" wide so I needed to plan for at least two mountings.

I'm findng the relationship between jig design and coding fascinating. It's like a puzzle that evolves.

I already have several ideas of how to make a new version of that jig and I'll have to coordinate changes with the coding to match.

    best regards,
    mike

Congratulations, I have to agree with everyone and say that you are off to a good start.

When I started with mine, I was doing all hand coding. Before long I had dug out my college text books on Geometry and Algebra and stuff that didn't make any sense years ago was interesting and useful. (!) I don't know who was more surprised, my wife or I.

But that's what I like, figuring out a problem and coming up with solutions. It seems like I'll spend 85% of my time on the design, 10% figuring out how to hold it down, and then 5% letting it run.

    Keep it up,

    Bill K.
