What tool holder "chuck" for X2 mill? Hi Guys I`m just wondering what chuck you have all gone for for your X2 mill. I`m thinking about the ER32 collet system - any thoughts? Chris

I just use all R-8 tooling such as face mills, and boring heads. I also use R-8 collets to hold my endmills. They are cheap, easy to find and work just fine. I don't see any advantage to going with a ER 32 collet system if you mill already has a R-8 spindle. But that's just my opinion there may be a good reason to use the ER collets. If there is one I would love to learn the reasons. Dale P.

ER collet systems will put a lot more clamping force on your tooling, much surpassing the standard R8 collets. You get much more surface area clamping on your tool vs. the R8 collets. MC

After wasting time and money other tooling I finally bit the bullet and laid out the cash for the Tormach System. http://www.tormach.com/document_libr...lingSystem.pdf IMO worth every penny, especially with a power draw bar.

Thanks MC, That makes sense, I was always wondering why someone would use a different system other than the R-8 taper that comes on the machine. Do you think the ER style collets are really needed on such a small machine? I have yet to have a R-8 collet come loose on me. Dale P. |
