I found this one I will get from my library "CNC robotics : build your own workshop bot", But any of you out there know of good books on the subject. I am interested in the controller circuits, I have built low voltage circuits, I may consider building them for a table top router. Opps can someone move this to DIY benchtop |

| Although I can't offer much help in the way of books, this site is a book in itself. There is so much information here on just about every subject possible. I would give you this recommendation, at least try a cheap pre-made drive before you jump into the project whole hog without ever having run a machine tool. There is a lot to learn with just the machine and software itself besides messing with the hastle of redoing the work many others have already done in optimizing drives for motion control. Like many of these kinds of projects it's very rewarding to do, but you have to be doing it purely for the learning experience, otherwise it's going to be much more expensive and certainly more difficult than doing something pre-made. If you've got the appropriate construction and measurement tools needed to build a decent drive by all means. Hell I've got a good scope, great iron, and I've designed a couple of boards for other kinds of consumer equipment. I've build a couple of tube amps from scratch. But I'd rather pay someone else to handle the drive's I'm relying on for reliable motion control without missing steps. |

| Actually found the section on controllers below, and there are a few designs down there. I want to look at controllers if I recall correctly it is not that big of a deal as you are just sending pulses to different coil windings or holding pulses. The computer and pic should do all the work. Also with the downturn in the economy I may have some time to kill, and more time than money. I may still go for a gecko 540 keling like deal, but I bet I have enough parts laying around to build a controller sitting in boxes here. Just remembered I have a radio shack book with a controller plan. |
