    CNC4PC C6 speed board connections?

I smoked both my X2 controller board and C6 speed control board today.

I used the instructions from the CNC4PC site for the FC250J (mini-lathe) board. CNC4PC C6 speed board connections?-sieg_fc250j_110v_c6.pdf, although I was installing it on my X2 FC350. They looked the same to me.

This calls for 0-10v to be connected to P2 and GND to P3.

In Hoss's instructions (for X2) I see (after the smoke) that GND should go to P1! CNC4PC C6 speed board connections?-c6%2520spindle%2520control%2520wiring%2520diagram%2520for%2520sieg.jpg

This is the only mistake I can see, but could that have caused all the sparks?? To me it looks like opposite sides of the pot and harmless ??

Can anyone help? I don't want to order new boards just to smoke them again.!!

By the way, I took notice of all the warnings about not using the ground from the X2 board. (everyone warns you to isolate from that ground, but nobody says how !!) (I'm still steaming - thats why I'm looking for someone else to blame). I used a seperate 12v power supply for the C6 board. That should isolate it right?

Yep, use two completely different power supplies. One for the speed control and one for the BOB. I smoked 3 boards before Hoss generously helped me out.

Did you disconnect the pot from the x2 board when hooking up the c6?
That pdf, even though its for a lathe board that has a switch for reversing the motor unlike an X2 board, shows a switch for selecting either cnc or manual.
I did the same thing on mine so that either the pot has control of the x2 board(manual)
or the C6 has control(cnc) but not both at the same time.
I have my wiring diagram here but note it uses P2 and P3 with a replacement treadmill mill board.
they make note in the Sieg X3 pdf
The P1 and P2 must be
    disconnected from the potentiometer
and connected to GND and analog
    output on the C6 board.
Are you a member of the cnc4pc yahoo group, Arturo can be a big help.
You aren't the first to see smoke.

Yes I cut the P2 and P3 leads from the pot and connected to 0-10V and GND.

Do you think this caused the smoke?

Nope, thats the correct way to do it.
Better ask Arturo about connecting GND to P3,
he would know better than anyone.

Yeah, I smoked my C6 and a Control Techniques motor controller board while trying to set it up a couple of months ago. I've replaced the motor controller, but the C6 is still sitting on a shelf. I'm not sure I want to replace it's optoisolators and try again.
