    The new 318 oz Steppers

Keling says that the new 318 oz steppers will be available in 15 days.

My question is should I wait for them to come out and get them for my Taig?
Ot am I really better with the 270 oz ones since the Taig is so light?

The 270s will be faster wont they? Do I need the extra torque?

The factory-supplied Taig conversion uses, IIRC, 200oz motors, so even the 270s should be more than enough.

With the 20 tpi on a taig the 270's should be really good. The 425's on my taig are overkill and are slow to the point of tears at least with the xylotex driver. I have since moved the motors over to my router and I am using the g251 to drive it on 50v, what a huge difference, but they are still limited.

    Back to the Taig.

What ever motor you chose, the torque is multiplied by the 20 tpi screw, so the 318's will more than likely be overkill and will probably limit your rapids, but I am not sure. I am actually trying out some single stack nema 23's that I don't have torque specs on to see what will work with the xylotex driver and ~30v power supply.

The 318's are the closest match available to the G540's output, with 3.5 amps and 54 volts.
the 270's are 3 amp and 60 volt, the 318's should give the best speed you should expect from the g540.
yes more torque than is needed for a taig but should have the best speed.
Should be perfect for an X2 X and Y but probably be a little weak for an X3.

This will make it easy for you, Keling is out of the 270s, they are shipping them approximately 20 days from now, so you are waiting either way. Just ordered them yesterday.

Ehhh, maybe 5 IPM, with leadscrews percentage wise, you don't have a lot to gain.
The highest claim for a taig with steppers i've seen on here is 40 IPM
    so it should hit that.
Definitely more torque than a taig needs but so is 270.
Like has been said, companies ship them with 200 oz/in motors.
If I were building one I'd just use the $33 185 oz/in motors for the X and Y,
they are 50v motors so the g540 would get everything out of them.

Ok So you think this will be a good setup to run my Taig?

I would probably go with a 318 for the Z to help with that big spindle motor.

Without any weight on my table I was able to get 120 IPM on the X and Y of my Taig. I put a 65 pound block of metal on there which forced me to reduce the speed to about 65 IPM. This is with Keling KL23H276-30-8B steppers (bipolar parallel), Gecko 203Vs, with a 40v PSU.
