    conversion incidentals

I bought the CNCFusion and Xylotex kits to convert my X2 to CNC. Then I got sidetracked into other modifications... I bought some steel, air cylinders, Belleville springs, and other doodads, but the largest class of further expenditures is... fasteners. Every trip to the hardware store costs $5 or $10 for a half-dozen socket head capscrews or studs. Then there were the shoulder bolts and drawbar bolts from MSC, and the long setscrews from the fastener place, and... I can account for about $80 worth of nuts and bolts, so far. YOW!

Don't be a sucker. Buy a box from McMaster, MSC, Fastenal or one of a dozen other places that won't charge you a buck a screw like Home Despot or Lowes. You might spend a tiny bit more on the box, but then you HAVE them for later.

My local Ace hardware store has a great selection of screws, socket head, set, metric, fine thread, etc... they are bit more pricey for sure, but well worth it to have them there for that critical part on a Sunday morning when I actually have the day free to "work."

I found that after the fifth or sixth visit, the cost of each trip has gone down steadily. It just takes a while to build up a good inventory. After a while you see what you use a lot of, and can get them in package quantities for a good deal less.

yea thats what i did, i started off trying to get 10 or 12 from the orange box, and they would only have 3. finally figured out that i go through 6-28's socket caps pretty fast, so i just put in an order online, and now i have chrome ones, black ones, ones with no knurling, and about 10 different lengths of each..

now if i could just find that darn 6-28 tap.......
Grizzly X3, CNC Fusion Ballscrew kit, 3 500oz-in bipolar steppers, 3 203v Gecko's, Linear power supply from Hubbard CNC, Mach 3, BOBcad Pro Art V22, Rhino.

eBay is pretty useful for fasteners...

If you aren't in a super hurry to get them, there are a few dealers on eBay who sell fasteners pretty cheap. I use 14/20 hex head bolts for most of the mods I;ve done thus far and I can pick up a box of 100 of 'em for about 6$ from there.

Beats 55c EACH from Home Depot, Menards or Ace (Ace wanted to charge me over $2.60 for 3 inch alloy 1/4-20's...)

I get all my hardware for kits from Bolt Depot.
Just about anything you want either individually or in bulk, I get boxes of 100.
Great prices and fast shipping too.
