ROTON vs. NOOK Ball Screws?

I am looking at 5/8” PCD ball screws. With precision ball nuts (non preloaded).

It looks like Roton is a bit cheaper but there is no documentation I can see as far as deviation on the screw pitch. Nook shows 0.004in/ft. Has anyone used Roton screws and physically checked backlash and lead deviation?
Also does anyone use wipers on their screws?

I'm not sure what Hoss uses, but I just wanna make a comment. I love those prices on roton. Super easy to order the stuff, good prices and easy.

All I need is a Lathe to get the right diameter down. Sorry, this doesn't really help you but I'm glad you posted the sites. Good for future use.

speaking of wipers on screws, when i was designing my table router, i decided that i needed some kind of a brush or something to knock the chips off the screws before they went into the nuts, what i ended up comming up with was cutting a couple el-cheapo paint brushes and mounting them, then as the screws turned, they would knock the chips off...

just a thought.

I bought Roton screws just recently and the only thing I have checked on them is the backlash and the stock ball nuts give me .0035" which I'm not too happy about. I'm going to get some .125" chrome balls from enco and see if that will improve it some. I measure the balls that came with the nuts at .1246. I just got the screws in the machine and don't have any plans for wipers yet.

Buy me a Beer?
Roton ballscrews # 59321 are .003-.006 lead error/foot. I emailed.
Mine came in at .003 as I found out here.

I'd suggest Nook XPR screws, purchased direct from Nook. They're 0.001"/foot max. lead error, where nearly all other rolled screws are 0.004"/foot. And they're virtually as smooth and quiet as ground screws. The price is almost the same as the cheap rolled screws from other sources. I used them on my knee mill conversion, and could not be happier.

Regards,
Ray L.

HI ALL,

I've used Thomson & Roton Screw Stock.....roton.com has a comprehensive selection of
Acme stuff...both screws & nuts.
Great application notes, All you need to know about selecting their products.
