Is there a screw that you adjust and the other question is can these be
locked so that the bench does not move?
Once you screw down the leveling foot, the weight of the machine is no longer on the wheel but on the foot, so yes, the machine is "locked" in that it is no longer supported by the caster wheels, which will turn freely in mid air.

Which would be better for the Grizzly G0704 mill? These leveling casters or the Grizzly G8683Z mini mobile base (on sale for $54 plus shipping)?

It looks like the rear casters might be hard to access for items placed up against a wall?

How much effort does it take to move the finger wheel and change the caster from "solid" mode to wheeled mode?

not much effort at all to get the wheels to the ground, but to lift the table it takes a small wrench.i have these and a nearly identical set I purchased elsewhere for twice as much. one of them provided the wrench but I can't remember which one.

the trick in tight areas is to physically turn the back wheels so the adjuster is easy to reach (pointing out to the side)

I can move my table around with one hand, and is built from 4x4s with a 1/8" steel plate on top of the 3/4" plywood. at 3'x4' my table alone is a monster and thats not mentioning my computer, monitor arm, cnc, and scrap wood and parts on the bottom.

takes about 5-10 minutes to level by myself. I keep the table about 8" from the wall incase I really need to get back there for something. my long scraps lay behind it and only get in the way when I need to unhook something which is very rare.

can't speak for the purpose built stand, but I personally would never get one. I threw some heavy cardboard up around my table which contains 95% of the chips and thats a LOT of chips that the "boss" doesn't yell at me for- for tracking them into the living room

PriddyShiddy,

Thanks for the reply. Is your mill on the table that you mentioned? Any pictures?

I'm really intrigued with these casters, and I'll probably get some to give them a try. I may give the Grizzly mini stand a try also, as I can always put the mini stand on my floor drill press if it doesn't work out.

my build thread on page one towards the bottom shows the casters being installed. MRM was the one who gave me the info on the cheaper price.

that was befor the conversion, but now my X3 cnc'd and all components are on it.

few more pics I took this morning

"enclosure" and mill, tools, computer, monitor arm, touch screen, and controls

wheel off the ground

tiny little wrench, but more than enough to adjust. I never even sanded the burs off because it doesn't take much pressure to turn

That's strange - I finally found the caster installation near the top of page 4?!?

Thanks for uploading new pictures. Your build thread was last updated back in September, so I'm wondering if your CNC conversion ever was finished? Looking back on it, what things worked right and what things didn't go right in working toward your original goal of a 1-month CNC conversion?

Nice find and just ordered 4 of these myself. This will help level on an unlevel basement floor.

Like the bench design too and size. I was wondering if it made with doubled 2x4's or 2x6's? Hard to tell from the images and also going to add the Quick Frame to mine. Just have to source the plexi somewhere...

Thanks for saving me some $$$ to use elsewhere...
Matt

All my worbenches are doubled up 2x4s. I just bought a benchtop lathe and will try to make that stand from 8020. If iff suck, then its back to 2x4s.

Thanks. That's the way I was leaning, a little less weight so when the wife needed to vacuum around it, she can move it easily.
