Just gettin started

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am an acomplished machinist and figured the next step up was to build my own machine.
My plans are to build a benchtop cnc mill. My end goal is to have the ability to machine plastics, wood and nonferrous metals with ease, and alloys & stainless moderatley.
I work for an aerospace/defense contractor so raw materials such as aluminum and alloy steel stock are pretty easy to come by. I plan to use linear rails and bearing blocks for all 3 axis along with precision ball screws. High oz stepper motors will most likely be my choice due to the fact I have alot to learn on the electronics end of the project.
Like alot of you guys I am a family man with alot going on so this will be a slow build. Right now I am designing a ER 32 spindle. I will take pictures along the way and figure out how to post them.
Looking forward to learning alot from you guys !!
Jason

I've been thinking it's time for me to build a CNC mill. I'm not yet at the planning stage -- just starting to look at things.

Talking ER-32 Spindle

** Here is my ER-32 spindle I've made some progress on. I plan to run this with a simple DC motor and belt drive to get started with. This end of the project will be a constant evolution as budget allows. I like the ER32 size because you can run just about anything .750" dia. and under, plus they are super accurate.*The bearing housing is made from 7075 aluminum. Dual angular bearings are on the buisness end of the shaft and one needle bearing supports the upper end. The spindle housing is T-6 6061. My idea is to be able to swap out the ER spindle for a router if needed for fine engraving, carving, etc.*These parts were designed and machined on a multi-axis mill/turn machine using Fanuc Manual Guide i.*I will get better with my photo quality and posting ability.
