| spindle hole, collet and chuck maintenance Hi, I have installed my new Quantum BF16 vertical mill and used it for a while. Then I noticed that the end mill is exhibiting a slight wobble. I removed the collet chuck (2MT) and used a dial indicator to check the inside hole of the spindle. It was nearly perfect. Then I checked the outside of the collet chuck, it has visible wobble. Then I checked the outside of the end mill and it had more wobble. I did some research on this issue and have read that the collet chuck taper and the spindle hole must be very clean. How must this cleaning be done? When I bought the collet chuck and a few collets, they were all soaked in oil. I thoroughly removed this oil using a paper towel and paint thinner. Should I use the collet chuck and the collets "dry" or should they all be used and stored with a thin film of oil on them? Any tips welcome ... |

| a piece of wood that as the same same exterior conical shape as the taper can do a nice job of cleaning the taper, but also a good shot of a lint free rag can do a good job. storing them with a thin coat of oil is a good thing in my opinion but the should be wiped dry when you insert them in the taper with a lint free cloth.
