hey! i was milling a slit in copper, the copper heats up often and it pushes and sandwhiches the slitting saw if i don't take periodic breaks while milling. Well today i heard funny noises coming from the mill so thought ill open her up- problably the belt. well the belt was shredded so i took it off, but now i cannot get the new belt on! Anybody have any tips? im pretty frustrated right now. ive tried all sorts of specialty tools (not really, needle nose pliers, thin peices of metal, screwdrivers) and no luck whatesoever- not even close. Also- anybody have a link to the replacement belts? thanks! regards |

| After loosening the slotted adjustment bolts and moving the plate all the way toward the motor, you SHOULD be able to install the new belt. You could also REMOVE the slot screws and juggle the motor while installing the belt. Removing the four flange screws and pulley flange may be another way to do it. CR. |

| To properly replace the belt you loosen the socket head cap screws through the plate the motor mounts which attach the plate to the head and are slotted, THEN loosen the bolt at the base of the motor which holds the motor perpendicular and allows tracking adjustment. Slide the plate over, slide the new belt on and tension it by pushing the motor, then tighten the SHCS's and finally adjust the tracking so the belt doesn't ride against the rims of the gears. Did that make sense? Replacement belts I am sure you can source from SDP-SI, I haven't managed to wear my original down enough to get around to that, but Grizzly will sell you replacements. If I ever get up to speed I'll probably want to have a couple on hand. I also want to try dneisler's arrangement to elim the gearbox and get a higher headspeed but I can already tell my spindle bearings need some attention...so a spindle overhaul might be prudent before I crank her up.
