For those who know automotive stuff. I'm trying to cut an automotive ball joint taper receiver into a piece of steel. Any tricks to this? Special drill bits or something? I can't think of how to do it without some kind of conical burr. I'd like to make it a tool change if possible without taking the part out of the mill. Thanks Kris |

| It sounds like this is an internal taper? If so, you can just trig it out to determine the right thickness of shim needed to raise one side of your rotary table to obtain the proper angle so you can just mill the right taper into the end of your workpiece with a standard end mill. Otherwise throw it on the lathe afterward and use a cross-slide to bore the taper. |

Have you tried auto parts suppliers to see if there is a taper reamer for this?

| It's a lathe job or step drill it then use a reamer. What size mill do you have. What other machine tools do you have. Phil. ![]()
