I bought an enco mill drill awhile ago, and have been lurking around these forums. The mill I purchased looks just like the one in the pic below. ![]() My plan is to start purchasing parts to convert it to cnc. Get a piece of it every payday. Was hoping to get some opinions on parts from members here that have done a similiar conversion. I have looked around at few different sites, and don't know what to choose. If you guys could give me some of the best options for things like ball screws, steppers, drivers etc, I would greatly appreciate it. |

| Where bouts in the Buckeye state you at? I'm in the Toledo area. Glad to ruminate over a beverage or two ![]() I converted an unblemished X3 which is a tad smaller but same principals. I'd recommend Nook XPR screws - reasonable cost, great accuracy, etc. Gecko drives are excellent - I'm running the G203Vs, there is supposed to be a 4 banger version of it coming out (4 drivers on one unit), a linears PS based on a toroid transformer - I'm pushing 53VDC but going up to 70ish would be better for that size I believe. Kelinginc.net is a popular source for steppers - x and y probably around 400-450oz/in range, and z will depend on your design - probably smaller since most of those units move the quill. I'm sure you've already read that the round columns aren't as desirable as square columns and that that style is prone to some vibrations in the head/column. I considered one and had planned on filling the column with steel rod and cementitious grout to minimize flex and dampen out any motor vibrations. Good luck and welcome to the hobby!
