| Please tell us about the conversion. How did you do the Z quill drive? Did you use a plan set or your own design? Stock lead screws or upgrades? What size servos and what gear ratio? Very nice looking job!

| I got the plans set from Jeff Davis at Home CNC used gecko drives and Axxus board converted to ball screws and nuts on all three axis used the clifton $10.00 servos Mach 2 and Bob Cad Cam software the computer is a gateway 1.5 p4 80 gighd and is dedicated solely to run Mach 2 to control the machine. After I get the bugs out and running well I plan to ad a 4th axis Rotery Table it is an 8" and weighs a ton,all I need to do is figure out how to do all this programing between mach 2 and bob cad thats a lot of reading .THE Z AXIS

Jeff's design seems like a good one. I love the concealed z-axis drive. I bought the cheap servo motors from him (he put encoders on) and used his Gecko box plans as well. What did you think about his Z-Axis design? I've been toying with the idea of using a "rotating ballnut" design like this. Was it a hassle to build? The sell off-the-shelf rotating nut ballscrew assemblies - with support bearings integrated into the nut. You just drop it in your assembly and clamp. They cost more than regular ballnuts however. I'm trying to decide if they're worth it. John |

| the z was the most time consuming i used the angle lock bearings and all i did use the us digital encoders and still have to wire the home and limit switches of course in the middleof the conversion i had another hartattack so that took a lot of time away from the project but it was easy enough for me and i am a beginer at the machinist thing
