super X3 spindle pulley question

While getting familiar with a new super X3 I noticed there is a considerable amount of play between the spindle and the top pulley which is enough to cause a clunk when the spindle starts. Is this normal?

I examined an older X3 and the machining on the top of the spindle has thicker splines so the pulley locks a lot better. It's almost like they changed the type of spline - but put an old pulley on.

My SX3 does the same. The pulley is so loose it tends to chatter loudly whenever the spindle is turning. I'm not sure if all SX3's are the same, but mine seems quite noisy

They are all that way. I have looked at several and they all have the same slop in the casting.

I have thought about finding a way to put a spacer filling it in or something, but frankly haven't thought about the materials that would work well. That will certainly be a future project though. Coming from an X2 with the quiet belt drive to the very noisy SX3 is awful.

Mine is super Noisy - just added a new pulley on the motor side which is about the same diameter as the spindle side for higher rpms. I'm looking for a better spindle currently.

I did some testing, and at least with my SX3, the vast majority of the noise is from the spindle bearings, and not from the spline slop or the top spindle drive bearing (the one that supports the splined pulley on the spindle axis. Turned out that on mine, the preload was WAY too high on the spindle, to the point that the top thrust bearing is pretty much shot. I just pulled them all out, cleaned and regreased them, reset the preload, and the thing is literally 2-3x less noisy. Belt tension is also a factor (tooth whine), but I put silicone buffers on the spline, and that did next to nothing- so I dont think it is the spline slop. Or, maybe mine is just horrifically noisy, and you guys are actually hearing the splines. Also, my spindle temp dropped dramatically with the preload adjustment, so if you see high spindle temps- could be another indicator-
