Replacement Sherline motor alternatives?

Well I just got my shop setup finally and was running the 1st cnc code in a long time when my motor gave up the ghost. Any ideas about a good replacement motor besides the one sherline sells Something cheaper perhaps? Any info appreciated.

I assume you are talking about the spindle motor?

If the controller is good, but the motor is toast, you have a lot of good options. Lots of cheap surplus 90v DC motors out there, try Ebay.
If the controller itself is shot, they are also common - 90v DC controllers are standard industrial surplus Ebay fodder.

I know Surplus Center has a few 90v controllers people on here seem to use a lot, same with motors. If you want a complete replacement you can get a 130v DC treadmill controller from them for like $30, and a 1.5 HP motor for another $20. They have some smaller ones as well, as does Ebay, as 130v DC are pretty common too.

Any way you slice it, you can do better for the money than a replacement Sherline if you shop around.

Sorry I should have noted it is the spindle motor. I figured there had to be other much cheaper options out there than the Sherline replacement motor.

Would like one I don't have to recreate the wheel to mount and is no heavier, maybe even lighter then the original.

I am pretty sure its the motor as it was smoking and very hot after a short run. Thanks for the input.

Anyone with brand names and model numbers of motors they have used feel free to give the details if you would. Otherwise I am going to have to search one out on ebay etc to get going again.
