First just want to say hello. There's a lot of good info here and I have enjoyed reading. I would like to convert my X2 type mini mill to cnc and I have been looking at the cncfusion kits. My question concerns everything else that is needed. Can anyone give some advice on what will work well with this type of mill conversion? What torque steppers, controllers, etc. I would like to save money where I can, but I don't want to end up with a bunch of incompatible parts, overkill, or something that won't get the job done. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! |

| Bluedog, For the motors and controllers I am using the xylotex 3 axis 269oz kit. This is a really nice match (well atleast I think) I know gecko has the cheap drive coming out soon that should be really nice and affordable. For Cad I an using Free2design its free, easy and great for me. For Cam I splurged bigtime. I use Vcarve. Stupid easy for a guy like me and can produce some amazing results. There is other great ones out there of course but this is the one that I know how to use. But you should check out sheetcam, meshcam, Gcam, Ezcam. For the controller software I am using EMC2 "free of course" Pretty much all the software has some sort of free version or free trial. Try them all out before you spend the money. Read and read this forum. You will see threads that say 125oz steppers for a x2 is large enough. Some will use nema 34 rated at 1200oz. Here is the video of mine running with the above configuration. Good Luck http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2721860881364665569 |
