| If you can find one on Ebay? Might be your best deal. I have one. Its small; Not for large parts. And you MUST keep it well oiled or it will rust. Not to happy on the type of steel sherline used on there products. And not to happy with Alum X&Y Sherline Mill Table. So If you think your going to want to Mill larger parts someday? Invest in a larger table & Mill. I have out grown my Sherline. Might sell it after I get my Modifide Harbor Frieght X2 Mill to the point it will do all I want it to do. You know CNC 4th Axis ect. |

Thank you for responding so quickly. For my application I need a very accurate rotary. After looking at several brands the Sherline was the best quality for setting up as cnc rotary for the price and for its size. I am using this for wax and almost every person that requires a rotary for wax uses the Sherline product. I understand it may have a shortfall as far as the rust issue is concerned, however I can deal with that. I dont see many deals for them on eBay so I thought I would ask the fine people on this site! Thank You again Jeff Alessi jalessi@aol.com Last edited by jalessi; 01-07-2008 at 09:40 AM. |

| I purchase mine 7-8 years ago from Sherline. And it still works just fine. Used it on Plastic,Alum,Brass & Steel. Yes its very nice for small parts. Thats what a Sherline is for. Little Machine Shop.com might have them? Or just get it from Sherline direct. But as I said I have out grown my Sherline. And want a CNC with 4th axis that will do larger steel parts. If all you ever want to do is small light parts. The Sherline with CNC is a good one. |

| I read about a high accuracy 4th axis that's better than and more likely more expensive than the Sherline on www.3dcadjewelry.com. I couldn't find the thread that referred to it, you might go there and post. I've got a Sherline 4th aixs and it's accurate enough for me for jewelry, no backlash I can measure anyway. If you use decent coolant it won't rust, otherwise it will in a hearbeat. |

There was some discussion a while back on 4th axis units and while pretty much everyone uses Sherlines, somebody posted a link to a company making precision units. Can't find it, my mind is slipping I'm afraid.... As far as other makes there's this one: http://www.littlemachineshop.com/pro...ory=1034788869 and I know other suppliers like Wholesale tool sell some imports for @ $100.00 |

Harryman, I am also on the 3Dcadjewelry board, it is a very good resource and all the guys there are great too! I found the old thread about the Little Machine Shop Rotary, I emailed one of the guys that has one, since they have several models listed in there catalog. I have heard horror storys about alot of the $100-$150 dollar import jobs. You know Fixittt (Robert), he has a cheap harbor frieght or Grizzly and had to put 10 hours into it to make it usable with his CNC mill because of backlash and no internal bearing support. I will wait for a little more feedback before making a purchase. Thank you for all the help. Jeff Alessi jalessi@aol.com |
