ok i am ordering next week my benchtop mill wich is from the look of it a bf20l clone with 11(x)x8(y)x12(z) travel and i was wondering if there was any company from wich i could order both motor&driver&psu and ballscrew since all those would have to come from the US i dont want to deal two time with duty and shipping

ps: i am looking for a 4 axis kit and stepper motor that are 400oz + i know i should get servo but all i have is about 600$ to 800$ cnd or about 550$ to 750$ usd

I've been doing some research, and I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for in the $800 range for new kit. Maybe eBay, or Surplus Center can get you started, but you're probably looking at three times that amount for a turnkey kit.

Maybe somebody else knows where to find what you're seeking. I'd sure like to know where to get all you're asking for at that price.

Best of luck.

I have to agree with the above post, with the 425 in/oz motors you need to probely use the geckco drives and they run approx $115 each ($345 for 3). (Xylotex seens to have a problem with this particular drive with midband resonance, where as it is around $160 for a 3 axis). Assume the ball screw is going to run maybe $125 and the ball nuts $25 each so ($150 for six if you intend to preload for minimal backlash). The power supply is going to run around $75. Then you have the enclosure cost (I've done a couple of conversions and I ordered an enclosure ($100 and I have used an PC tower case ($40) that you would buy if you were to build your own PC and personally I would perfer using the Minitower case and they are about half the cost and you end up with twice the room and it allows for a neater installation)

Then you have cableing and electrical connectors, ect. (figure $100)

Also a copy of Mach3 for $160

There is $1000 and just the raw materials. Add in machineing of the screws and bearing blocks (if your machine does not have good bearings. (for example the X3 has good bearings that in my opinion is equal to the inexpensive angular bearing that I have used in a couple of my conversions so if you were converting that mill you would just machine the screws to mate with those bearings)

Then, lets not forget the pulley's and belts which could run $50 per axis, or you could connect with oldham couplers which run about $20 per axis)

Also, when you start looking at homing switches and limit switches (limit switches can be less expensive, but you may choose to go with optical homing switches and the could start around $25 or $30 each in order to get a repeatability of .0003.

At this point, you can add in maybe $100 for things like bolts and screws, and your stock (aluminum, steel).

So, with all of that you could have around $1400 to $1500 just in the raw materials. Then you have the labor cost involved with transforming these raw parts into a kit.

So, just to give you an idea of the cost envolved, when you look at the syil who's price is now $4800, it would cost you around $1400 for the machine from Grizzley and another $1400 in parts and anothe 40 to 60 hrs of labor (figuring $30 hr say$1200) so, that would leave $800 profit if you built that machine in the USA at prices that you or I could get the parts.

Steve on the other hand in his conversion, kept his conversion cost down to around $1000 with using a X3 from Grizzley. He chose to use the original bearings which he felt they were good enough (and I totally agree) and his machine has kept very close tolerances.

So, there are ways to econimise on your conversion and end up with a good system.

ok what do you think of the keling kit with 4 495oz stepper here i would get the ballscrew after as for the machining of the needed part that i could do at the shop where i work and some will be doable here on the bench mill i am expecting tommorow
on a second note i do realize now that i wont be able do it for under 1k
also are the 495oz motor enough to be mounted dirrectly to the screw

looks good, but I would think that you would need a little more than a 4 amp supply. With 3amp/amp configuration and 4 axis that is 12 amps and accordinly to the "experts" you multiply this times 2/3 and the most that you can expect to see current wise is 8 amps draw, so I would think that you would want to parellel two of those supplies at minimum.

Otherwise looks like a sweet deal!
