OK, I bought a set of collets off e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0165&rd=1&rd=1 The problem is with the 3/8th collet, When I snap it into the Taig ER16 collet nut I can not fit a 3/8 shank end mill in it. I measured it and it is .359 ID when snapped into the nut. So do I have a bad collet or nut? How do I tell? Boy, I thought this was going to be easy and I have not even milled my first piece yet. |

| The 3/8" ER collet is usually 10mm, so larger than 3/8" bore. So it sounds like you got a defective, or wrong size one.

| There is a mix of collet nuts out there. Whenever I have had trouble like that, it is due to a different specification on the collet nut, or somebody goofed, but when the collet is sitting free, if you can get a 3/8 tool in it (without force), then the collet is okay, but the nut is not. So then as Carter said, you might need to search around for a metric series collet in 10mm, but just be aware that there are some collet sets which are made directly for inch series shanks.

That sounds like the snap ring groove isn't deep enough, causing the collet to contract when snapped into the closer/nut
