Hi there, I am currently looking to buy a benchtop sized cnc mill for prototyping and short run production. Material will be aluminum for prototyping and stainless steel for production. Will need a 4th axis. I was thinking of buying Syil Super X3 or tormach but will prefer something in between, haven't found anything off the shelves ready to use yet. Does anybody out there have experience with those 2 equipements and could tell me what are their weaknesses and strenghts. Any advice will be very appreciated. thanks pier Last edited by petecul; 04-08-2007 at 01:59 PM. |

| I have an non-cnc X3 - not a Syil conversion. Bottom line is the iron is the same and so are the limits of the work envelope. If you can fit everything in the 16 x 6 work envelope and don't need low end torque ( oops he did say stainless ) then the SX3 might work for you. The Tormach is not in the same class. Its a much bigger, heavier machine with a price tag to match. Its dual range head gives you an option to run slow when you need to. IIRC it also has a bigger work envelope. And you are right - there is a gap between them. You can always run small parts on a big machine... but it doesn't work the other way around. |

Smithycnc.com has some machines that i would consider between the Tormach and Syil. Other than their size and speeds though i odn't know much about the smithys. Legion

I didn't know that smithy had cnc mills. Does anybody have experience with smithy? After comparing them the smithy 1240cnc to tormach, it seems to be a better quality than a Tormach 1100. I am right? Does it worth to pay the extra money and go with a smithy rather than a tormach? petecul |
