How to remove gearhead cover? Can someone tell me how to remove the cover from my gearhead square column (WT) mill ? I removed the motor and the six bolts securing the cover, but when I lift it up it gets stuck about 2 inches up. It looks like all the gears are coming up with the cover ?!? Should this be the case? I also can't get it back on flush with the head, it gets stuck about a quarter inch from the head. I seem to be stuck here.

Hi, Maybe ask in the Industrial Hobbies section of this forum, I would think one of those guys have had there mill apart and they should be pretty cose to identical design as far as the gear head goes. Im curious too, I have a mill like yours Good luck, Dave

The gearshift yokes are getting hung up in thier slots. Move the gear shift levers around and the gear column should fall back in and the yoke will be free. You can then lift the gear cover off.
