Will X2 column fit on X1L Base?

At a glance it looks like an X2 column assembly used with the X1 extended base and table would make an X2 with greater travels for the X and Y yet be about the same price as a regular X2 with its stock table but thats only if the column can be modified to bolt onto a base made for an X1 (assuming it wont just bolt on without modification).

Will likely need some other small parts like a gib for the x-axis and bolts etc but I would think its not more than $25 even if you get all the goodies like hand wheels... Grand total not including the s/h $480 + $25 for the "goodies".

Not bad IMO for an iron machine with R8 spindle and .47 hp motor. The X1 costs about $180 less but also has much less usable travel assuming you dont count the "travel" when the table starts loosing contact with the dovetail guides, an MT2 spindle taper and only a .125 hp motor.

With a paint job, ball screws and motor mounts for steppers or servos this would make a good machine and be low cost yet comparable to others costing more (maybe). I am just thinking with my fingers again I think but seems doable :>

It sounds like a good idea - I've always thought it was a bit daft that the X2 had less travel than the Super X1L!

I would have thought that you'd need some sort of custom adaptor plate - which should be easy if you can get accurate measurements of the X1L base and X2 column bolt locations.

I don't know what the Z-travel of the X2 column is, but I'd be tempted to make the adpator plate 2" thick or so to give you a bit more Z-travel.
