Proxxon spindle for higher speed on my X2 | | I've been getting a bit worried that I am wearing out my spindle bearings and motor on the X2, because I run it at max speed most of the time for lengthy runs. Someone on the zone mentioned the use of the Proxxon IB/E "industrial drill-grinder" as a retrofittable setup, and looking at the specs I agreed. 20kRPM, 100W and continuous operation. Small package and to top it all off, a very nice mounting collar making it easy to bolt up to the side of the X2's head. As someone was nice enough to buy me an IB/E for Christmas, I thought I would share the results here. I can confirm it is rock solid, the speed control feels very good quality and stable, and the cutting performance is excellent. I've tried a 1.5mm square end carbide endmill and a pointed tip engraving cutter with better results than the standard spindle will give, both at 20,000RPM. Anyone requiring high speeds using 3.2mm and less shank tools, should consider this as a retrofit spindle option. |
