Anyone know something about this mill?

Does anyone know what kinda mill this is and if's it worth the money? Would it be possible to put an R8 Spindle on it? I'm a newbie looking for a machine to get started on. Thanks for any info?

It is a modified SEIG X1 micro mill
    Mill - Harbor Frieght $259
    X extension - Little Machine Shop $69
    y extension - Little Machine Shop $79
    2mt collet set - $49

So, around $500 without the work to modify the base, motors, spindle belt drive, controller, etc.

Not much hard info on what you get for the other $1800 - proprietary "DSP" controller sounds like no replacement parts though.

Take a look at the TOHOKO RICOH motor ($29.95) on this page:
    http://www.servosystems.com/servo_mo...p_specials.htm

Looks like the same motor - the X1 would very very slow with these motors.

If you want an R-8 spindle look for the X2 - ~$399
