Atlas CH-10M 1st generation X2 Mill

I have a Atlas CH-10M mill that I bought on Ebay. Currently, collecting
parts to cnc it. This forum is great for X2 info and great pictures of conversions. I view the Atlas as having all the problems of current built X2 designs, plus needs more help on vertical column Z-related conversion
details due to its lack of 50 pounds of iron in its design implementation,
as compared to current 150 pound machines.

Hey Java77man I was beginning to think nobody had one. I have found out since I posted that that you can still order some parts through Clausing for it. They have some in stock and still in contact with the actual manufacturer in Taiwan. I did email the guy at Little machine shop and he was unsure how many of tha parts for the chinese versions would work. akraven

Atlas CH-10M the little known X2 Mill

Yes, the Atlas may be little known, but the guy I bought mine from on Ebay,
was selling a few that he had acquired. I would bet a lot of current build X2
parts would fit. You probably have seen the Best of Bill website which details
the Atlas.

Actually, I view the lighter construction Atlas as a better candidate for cnc
upgrade, due to the fact that the idea to make it better is more definite,
and strengthening the vertical column should be part of your efforts, not
optional like the current build X2s.

My approach will be to base the mill on plate aluminum or steel with two back
side steel rod supports from an extended rear base to the top of the
vertical column. I have not decided yet whether I will add a 90 degree
support in the big washer area, but I may. I will not just add heavy amounts
of iron, steel, or aluminum but targeted supports and items that can be
removed easily for moving or other reasons.
