I am looking to upgrade a recently purchased HF X2 to CNC. However I am unsure if I should invest in a ball screw upgrade or just make my own mounts and keep the stock lead screws. I have read posts about backlash with the ball screws that is as bad as the stock screws. I was looking at the CNC Fusion kit and have read some posts with less than stellar backlash numbers. Any thoughts especially if you own the fusion kit...... |

| Don' own the fusion kit but the following ball screw threads may help you if you decide to go ball screw route: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...t=18178&page=9 (lots of detail here) http://www.thewarfields.com/MT/CCBacklash1.htm http://www.thewarfields.com/MT/CCBacklash2.htm http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25181 http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...078#post202078 especially post #41 Keep in mind, however, that rolled thread ball screws may have lower friction but they may NOT have as low a backlash potential as a ground screw - this is due to the ball to raceway contact relationship. If you do go with a ball screw upgrade, try to get ones that are ground. |
