Is it a good idea to?

I plan to covert my mini mill and wonder, if I use a dual shaft motor, is it a good idea to use the hand wheel to do manual work? You know the occasional drilled hole or fly cut. Any comments, please.

In my opinion it would be a good idea to make the handwheels removable, so that when in "CNC mode" you can remove the wheels and don't accidentally get a hand ripped of by the spinning wheel.

Hi there,

I got dual shaft motors thinking I would put handles on for manual work. My mill has been running CNCed for a year now, and I still don't have handles, nor am I going to add handles. I just haven't had the need for them. My next (CNC) mill won't have any either.

I lost my hand wheel when I cnc'd and haven't missed them!

If I want to do something simple then, I use the MDI function and do it.

I too did a conversion with double shaft motors, with ententions of hand wheels. Now I am looking at putting encoders on them. I added an MPG and don't miss the hand wheels at all.
