Hi, What have all you X2 (mini-mill) owners used for a mill stand or bench that works well? My first attempt of using standard industrial steel workbench legs, 2x6 framed top covered with an additional 1 1/2 inch laminated top did not work well. The steel legs had a bit of spring in them which did not make for a solid stand even with lots of steel and wood cross bracing. Any ideas before I run off to the lumberyard for a load of 2x lumber. Thanks |

| For the x2 you could definetly do one out of wood, I would go with 4x4 post for the legs, wood glue plus screws and nails on all connections, if you search thru this forum I think someone put up a thread on benches and check out some of those designs. I found for the sturdyness to wrap at least three sides with plywood, the top would be a minimum 3/4" plywood, on the sides you could do 5/8, for the legs you could tilt them out at a slight angle( kinda like they do most stands anyway) but being its an x2 as long as your footprint is like 36 x 36 you could leave straight vertically. Just search for benches on this forum, you,ll get some good ideas. |
