My Tormach Is Alive!

It has been a while but it is finally up and running. I cut some shapes in particleboard to get the hang of things and then decided to try a real part. The attached movie is very poor quality because of the upload size limit. If you want a better quality movie I can email one to you. Sample pictures are of my first part. It is a bracket for a piece of equipment we sell. I stopped the machine before it completely cut the part out- I had not made my fixture yet and did not have any way to clamp it after the ends were cut off. It looks like the surface would be rough but it is actually quite smooth. The finish pass was skipped as it would have come after the part was completely cut.

I have not actually calculated the correct feeds & speeds so these may be way off but it worked pretty good.

Details:
6061 Aluminum (2"x3"x7")
4000 rpm spindle
1/2" endmill
1/4' cut width
1/4" cut depth
10ipm (went up to 20 but backed down to be safe)
cutting time appx 30min.

How do you like the machine? Mine is supposed to show up in the next two weeks. I was wondering what your impressions are. Thanks

Very nice, I like the videos.

I just have two questions out of curiosity:

1) Did they set up the machine or give you any training?...or was it a kit that you built yourself?

2) If you dont mind me asking, how much did the full setup cost?

I like it a lot. I have not had a lot of time to play with it but so far I'm impressed.

1) Did they set up the machine or give you any training?
No setup provided. No setup is needed. You unload the PCNC off of the truck- take the top & sides off of the crate. Put the Y axis stepper on ( it is left off for shipping) with the supplied 4 allen screws. Wire up the 220V plug of your choice. Install the included Mach software onto your PC. Hook up the supplied cord from the PC to the PCNC. Turn it all on and start cutting. If I did not have to assemble the stand it could have gone from the truck to cutting my name in a board in 1 hour.

The stand took about 2 hours to put together and get the PCNC mounted to it.

2) If you dont mind me asking, how much did the full setup cost?
The PCNC, stand, cnc tool system, & shipping came in just over $9K. CAD/CAM software added another appx $3k. Clamps, tooling, etc added about another $500 (using cheapies right now). PC (WalMart sale) $350.
