| Hey Guys; I'm trying the easy path for this question before going the full research route. I'm in the final stages of converting a lathemaster benchtop ZAY mill to CNC and want to add spindle speed control. I'd like to replace the won-hung-lo (chinese) motor with a better, speed controllable motor. The existing is a 2hp 110/220V 60 hz motor. I don't know the mount method, in that I don't know how they are identified. Has anyone done this type for conversion. I want to have a strong either 110 or 220V motor that I can software control from Mach. I'd really like to have speed control instead of just on, off which can be accomplished with simple relays! Also, I'm sure that I'll need an adapter for mounting a US motor and I'm hoping that it is standard (remember my ignorance). Of course, cost is always a factor but after all the $$$ I've spent to date, heck, drop in the bucket! All help or thoughts will be appreciated. billyjack

| Check out Industrialhobbies.com to get some ideas on the mount of your motor. They should be similar or the same. At the above site go to "Product instructions" and then "Selecting a New Motor and VFD for Your Industrial Hobbies Mill". I know you can get a Leeson Motor here: Motor based on the information at IH's site. Chris |

| Bill & Chris, thanks for an informative topic. Bill: I replaced my ZAY motor in the first 3 month as the OEM unit died. Unfortuanately I didn't know of this forum and replaced it with the same RPM /HP as the original. I ended up spending a lot of money on an Italian motor [was very good quality] but I wish now, after reading this thread, that I'd gone up size and up on RPM to 3425. Thanks again. Owen |
