    RC Outrunner as Spindle motor

So i was thinking around a little and thought why not use a R/C Outrunner Brushless Motor as a spindle motor, these things have a lot of power, small form factor, can run really high RPMs... on thing i am not sure is how much torque they can deliver at lower RPMs...

But lets say you never drop below 2500RPM to 20k RPM how would that be?

Did any of you guys ever build something like that?

Please let me know your thoughts...

It's been done on a few smaller machines like Taigs and Sherlines.

I've looked into some of the larger motors and they are dirt cheap for their power.

    For example, something like this:
HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : Scorpion HK-4025-550KV Brushless Outrunner Motor (Perfect for .50 size helicopter)
Could probably put out 2KW continuous no problem.

The main drawback I have seen is that they look very difficult to power. How are you going to get 65 amps of 45V?

WoW that's a good amount of power in a small package says 2850 Watt continues , i will ask my friend he is a electronic expert, maybe he can develop some type of power supply or you guys know of something that will deliver power to a motor like this...

Several of us picked up 3000 watt HP server power supplies on Ebay a good while back during one of the previous discussions on these motors.
    Hoss's G0704
They still seem to be available now and again.

Thank you for the tip... will be checking ebay for $12 to pick on up that's great...

I have to say i am really impressed that so many of the RC people make there own motors, that will be something i will be looking into for sure...

Yeah I was looking into this also and realized about the power issue. But if you can a 3000w one for $12 that would be nice. But damn that is big.

Also i was looking, 3000 Watt power supply is wow, but these guys run the motor on batteries, so must be something more easier to run these then a 3000Watt power supply.
