(Suggestion) Moving the 3D printers threads??

blah, now i have to surf to two sections of the forum.

it was quite nice cuz it seems the only people interested in 3D printers on this site are the ones who are also interested/active in the benchtop metalworking machines.

Actually it was my preference that the 3D printer stuff be kept in benchtop machines (as I said) but suggested it be put in a new subforum of benchtop like the Taig or SX3 forum was. And I don't think I actually "complained" about anything, that was not my intent. I definitely did not complain to a moderator!

The 3D printers forum has been very slow (dare i say dead) and it was great to see the smart metal guys that I really respect (Hoss and others) getting into the 3D printing stuff with enthusiasm as a bunch of friends.

Maybe the forum structure is wrong? 3D printers really are benchtop machines, and share more in common with Taigs and SX2 etc than they do with laser scanners and vinyl cutting etc.

I'm also between forums my machine is a small precision CNC machine for cutting plastics and some aluminium with a high speed router so I get dumped in with the wood machines even though I never really work with wood at all.

Community has a lot of value, it's not just about classification. The metal guys were getting onto 3D machines and keeping it local with their friends in the place where their friends read threads. If there's anything like a vote my vote would be to keep the new 3D machine content in benchtop machines and move the old 3D printer stuff here too, but in a neat subforum of benchtop rather that just mixed in haphazardly.

Yeah my printer thread got 28000 views here on this forum in 6 weeks, seems lots of people here found it interesting whether it technically belonged or not and it really irks me that it only takes one or two complainers that either make a thread or official complaint to get it evicted.
Don't try an act innocent Roman, you are just as responsible for what happened since YOU started this thread.
It also has nothing to do with benchtop machines in particular and should have been posted here.

By my count 5 threads got moved, why in the world would they create a NEW subforum here for 5 threads.
Were they really that distracting to you that you feel they needed moved SOMEWHERE?

Still upset by all of this. Doing a little math the 5 threads that were moved had over 37,000 views in 6 weeks. The rest of the the 3d printer forum had a little over 11,000 views in little over a year. If you include the reprap section which is where technically the threads should go if you want to really get picky there has been 18,000 views. Heck Hoss's thread has more than that by itself. To me it seems wrong to have moved them. How many reprappers have been turned on to benchtop cnc machining since these threads were started? The more people we can have within a community giving out information freely the more intelligent we all get. I like the idea of moving all the 3d printer section to the benchtop forum. But then that will make people there upset. Community building is fun isn't it?!?!?!?!?!? I'm done. Back to the 3d printer forum.

Same here, never thought of them and then saw some of the little gears being made and thought that would be the ticket for some of the prototype stuff I want to do.

Well, at least that horrible distraction is behind us now and we can all go back to arguing over stepper or servos.

Well if enough people seem to be in agreement the thing to do is send an email to Paul, Zone admin and request the 3d printer forum and content be moved to its own sub forum of bench top machines or what ever.

What is the point of that?
The 5 threads were evicted because technically they aren't metalworking benchtop machines.
Moving them to a subforum of metalworking benchtop machines makes little sense
and wouldn't be fair to the other threads in 3D Printers.
Roman should have minded his own business, he barely participates in the benchtop forum.
The 5 threads weren't hurting anything here and should have been left alone like many
other threads here that aren't about a metalworking benchtop machine in principle.
What's done is done, the 5 were sent where they technically belong now where they can
die in peace.

Really? is that how petty this whole situation really is?
I am not trying to take sides, but Roman made a very valid point, not to upset people but to streamline the forum the way it was set-up in the first place. It was the same point Hoss made about the software threads.
If this section is really for benchtop machines then should all the mills and lathes sitting on a stand or in an enclosure be sent to the general metalworking section? because technically they aren't sitting on a benchtop. Or we can have another sub forum called "benchtop machines not on a benchtop"
Roman and yourself Hoss contribute an immense amount of info and technology for those who need it and for that we all should be grateful regardless if some of it is not in the benchtop forum.
This forum and all its subforums and misc sections are open for everybody to view and comment on regardless of how much time they spend "here" or how many posts they have.

So you would feel comfortable going into the router forums for example and making a similar thread suggesting they boot some of their threads?
Not something I would consider doing there or here for that matter where I mainly hang out.
