    4" Vices

Simple A or B I guess, but what kind of vices are people throwing on their X2's?
Little machine shop has a nice one but not really sure I'm knowledgeable enough to choose between that and the same thing on ebay...

I believe I need 4" as I will be often working with 2.5-3" round stock and want to be able to have a V block in there with it.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

    Or the significantly more expensive...

I would go for the better vise, its just one of those tools that it pays to get the best you can afford.

On that note have you looked at the Glacern 4"?

Glacern Machine Tools - All Products

Its been a while seens I have bought anything from ebay but I am thinking that buy the time you pay all the extras it may be as cheap to get the Glacern which is said to be a better vise.

Ofcourse if you go the cheaper route LMS is a good place to buy. I am not sure if maybe a 3" might be big enough for you but LMS screwless vice is a very good vice for the money. Even though this vice is rated as 3" width it opens within a few thou of the 4" vices. These vices are a bit more sturdy than the cheaper one listed. Although the Shar's and Glacern version are pretty good units.

The heck of it is a man needs more than one style/size if its possible. Or even double matching depending on what jobs are being run.

I started this thread about X2 tooling and ended up buying this vice. Been very happy with it so far. I paid $40.95 for it maybe a year ago and that was list price IIRC, seems to have gone up a lot.

On the thread I asked about the LMS vice you mentioned, so maybe the feedback I received is helpful for you also. Discussion starts at about post #26.

Just beware of jaw lift on cheaper vises. I bought one years ago to get me by temporarily and it was the worst vise I've ever bought, it had like .015" jaw lift.

Go with Kurt, Glacern, or even the higher end Shars vises aren't too bad. But it really depends on how deep your pockets are.
