Micromark X2 Motor and control board ID?

Hello, I am trying to identify and get more information on the motor and driver board on my Micromark X2. Ultimately I want to add a spindle enable signal from my CNC computer and speed control if possible. For now knowing exactly what I have and what it could be replaced with is enough. I do have an Oscope and logic analyzer should I decide to really take a good poke at it.

One of the things that bothers me is Micromark says that cutting or applying power with the speed knob not at zero will cause the board to burn up. Given that and its other limitations I would like to know what it really is and if it has some hidden features I may like or if it can just be swapped out with another board.

    Here are some pics:
The board has the MCU on a daughter card in the upper left with some opto isolators.

    Thank you.

Well not much of an ID but I did find out that LMS has replacement boards and a simple plug in board for controlling the spindle from a CNC controller:

That LMS board is only for the SX2, which has a brushless DC motor. It will NOT work on the regular X2.

Don't go poking around in that controller unless you know what you're doing! That thing runs directly off the AC line, with NO isolation, so almost EVERYTHING is "hot". If you try to attach a scope to it, without an isolation transformer, you stand a good chance of blowing up the controller and/or the scope.

    Regards,
    Ray L.

Thank you for the concern. I often have to express the same sentiment in another electronics forum I am on. My back ground is more in electronics than machining. I got into machining so I could cut better looking project boxes! You are correct, my scope is not rated for direct contact with mains. It is only a class II measurement device. Some day I hope to own an isolated variac (or combo isolation xformer/variac.)

Mine is the SX2 with brushless DC motor, I did not know that designation till LMS pointed it out.

His does happen to be the same thing, but earlier and maybe even different brand X2 use to run a DC/ brush motor. His is the brushless setup so he could order the CNC control board and be going.

No, it probably stands for "super" or something. I have an LMS SX2 and it has a more powerful brushless motor and seems to be a bit more solidly constructed. The harbor freight x2 for whatever reason seemed more spindly. It may just be because it mine and I think all my stuff is more awesome than other peoples stuff lol

No, it is not. The SX2 is the "Super" X2, which has a brushless DC motor, in place of the brushed DC motor of the standard X2. It has a rigid column, in place of the tilting column of the standard X2. It has longer travels than the standard machine. It does not have the noisy geared head of the standard X2.

    Regards,
    Ray L.
