Angry VIRUS on MaxNC's website

Hey guys,

Just want to warn you I went to MaxNCs site and it downloaded a bunch of crap on my computer! There is a virus on their site/computer.

I can't get rid of it..its the one that keeps changing my homepage and keeps popping up stuff...

I have tired norton and CWShedder but no go. O yeah, Adaware too.

any ideas?

I'd call MaxNC to tell them but don't want to go back to the site...anyone have their number please let them know.

are you using IE? If you don't have the latest version of IE, that maybe your problem. I went through the same ordeal with my website about 2 month's ago, kept getting emails that it had a virus. After spending a week trying to figure it out, finally got to the source of the problem, IE.

Try Spybot . Get rid of IE and go to Mozilla . I use 1.7. Get rid of MS Outlook Express and use the mail package in Mozilla. Hope this helps.

Yeah,
Man, when I went to it just the other day all this stuff started popping up. I am using IE and will check to see if I have the lastest version. My friend was over yesterday and said the reason Adaware could not get rid of the viruses is because they where running and not closed. He set adaware up to start first thing when I start the computer and scan it. Since the virus will not be started it should be able to find and kill it. I did not have time to try it but will tomorrow.

Thanks guys, will check out mozilla too.

You can hit ALT+Ctrl+Del to bring up your Task Manager. Click on Processes, then User Name to group the processes. Close all processes under your user name except for explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe. Don't close anything under SYSTEM, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SERVICE. Then run AdAware and Spybot S&D.

What you are doing is closing all programs running under your user name. This allows AdAware and Spybot to delete any .exe's that might normally be running. If you have an .exe that keeps popping up after you close it, right click and click End Process Tree.

Just make sure you save everything first....

Josh

EDIT: (Add the cover my butt statement) I'm no expert but I've had a few spyware programs and I've fixed several computers that have had issues too. This is the way I would do it but if it doesn't work or something unforseeable happens please don't blame me.
