Hi there again jdurkin great to see you got your mill and keep the pics flowing....

when using the NEMA 34 motors you will have to drop the lead screw center on the X axis a few millimeters or else the stepper motor will be above the table level, I found that out when doing my build and if I had read other build threads before I would have seen that issue

the motor mounts from ebay look cool too.... just a suggestion here.... as you now have your mill would you not make stepper mounts your self to get you started...? and at a later date you could run a little gcode to make nicer mounts if you wanted to.... that extra $420USD would go a long, long ways to stocking your tool range.....!

Couldn't wait so just ordered myself the same kit with the ballnut mounts as well.
I'll get the ballnuts ordered next when the details for them come through

My VERY makeshift mounts have served well, but the machine needs a good service and realignment anyway so thought I may as well do it all in one go.

Will be nice to have a decent rapid speed and a LOT less backlash 8)

In the meantime I'll see about converting it to belt drive to quieten it down a little.

    Hi Rikk,

Yes Im glad ive ordered this kit as i know when ive done the conversion its there to stay.

Ive got the spec from billy for the screw and ballnuts but not ordered yet as im going to wait till they have landed as on his PDF on the X Axis he has the inner screw size as 26.500 but states "this should be just under the table length between the 2 outer plates to work properly without binding"

My table is 26.500 long. the outer plates have a recess which would be not a problem if they was staying on however the kit comes with new ones so will check this measurement when it lands (just cleared us customs today on the tracking)
Have emailed billy on this to check today.

Every other measurment from him seems fine as I when through them all on my mill yesterday.
Just this one spec i want to be sure.

Being sure is slowing me down but HEH getting screws from china that are wrong when i havnt got a lathe will slow me down much more.

Ill post on here when the mounts land.

You're more than welcome and the NEMA 23's don't have that issue....

I'm currently using 23's on the X/Y and a 34 on the Z, seemed the way to go

I do agree, my thought for a 34 for the Z was when I upgrade in the future with a power drawbar and maybe upgrade the motor a bit more grunt wont do no harm.

    Stepper Mounts landed

    Heres the update:

    Mill:
Stepper & Ballscrew Mounts landed from Billy - duty for UK import was £60 for anyone importing to UK.
    Pic attached.

Will contact linearmotionbearings2008 tomorrow to buy my screws, but will mention first for them to package them well for shipping as Ive heard a few people get badly packed goods from them with some screws damaged.

Just deciding on electrics at the moment.

    Garage Conversion to workshop:
    Fully emptied
    Walls and roof fully insulated
    floor painted
    Workbench purchased
Radiator in and Plumbed from house
3 new double glazed units installed

    Software progress
CAD - Getting to grips with Alibre Design - first model attched
CAM - Got cambam demo but not dugg into it yet

Advice on CAM programs from you guys will help.

Whats ye thoughts on Cambam of would you recommend others?
I would like ability to simulate toolpaths

I'd stick with Cambam, it's done everything I've needed and the support is great. The only reason to stray from CB is if you need something specific like pure 3d or engraving.
Also the pack of cambam/mach3/cutviewer is superb and saves a good few pennies.
