    Thumbs up

I'm only guessing here but when you compare the Linearmotion with Keling they "did" have similar product part numbers (for example here a Keling SFU1605) but I just Googled linearmotion on eBay and they are now referred to as RM1605 for a 16mm Ballscrew with a 5mm pitch……as I said I’m only guessing here but it looks like the same china manufacturer is supplying to both even the internal ball returns are orange on both their ballnuts….!

but that doesn’t answer your question either really….I have used both the Keling SFU1605 Ballscrews and Ballnuts Block and Rail in USA (scroll down the page) and the Roton’s 5/8th Ballscrew and Ballnut 5/8 X .200 Right Hand Recirculating Lead Screws & Nuts for Power Transmission - Roton Products, Inc., the differences are as follows

    • The Roton are in US imperial (inches) and the Keling and Linearmotion are in European Metric (mm’s)
    • With the Roton I found you must clean the metal dust particles on the Ballscrew left from the rolling dies as opposed to the Keling BallScrews which came pristine clean.
    • The Roton Ballnuts I found as easy as pie to remove the steel balls as they have external ball returns as opposed to the Keling as they have internal ball returns, and the Keling I found a PITA to pack the steel balls however here’s a video that Xarnon posted in his build thread My G0704 CNC conversion adventure…..
    • The Roton Ballnuts are smaller in dimensions as opposed to the Keling so require less clearance machining (i.e. in my build a BF20 I had a bit of side clearance machining of the base to fit the Keling Ballnut but had I initially gone for Roton’s Ballnut for my Y axis I would have had no machining to the Base to carry out….
    • The Keling Ballnuts have a plastic “wiper” which basically wipes or cleans the Ballscrew prior to entering the Ballnut, the Roton doesn’t..

hopefully this hasn't confused you more.....

Again Mad Welder, thanks for providing the great information!

I am still trying to learn as much as I can about this whole process, but I am time limited with work and school.

Since I already have the ballnut mounts coming from LinearMotion, do you think that a preloaded double-ballnut configuration from them (or anybody else?) would be worthwhile (if they can provide one)? Or would I be better off going with a different brand of ballscrews and ballnuts, making my own ballnut mounts. I have seen a couple reports of high backlash numbers on the LinearMotion ballscrews, which is making me a little hesitant to purchase them.

I have been looking into double ballnut configurations lately which seem to help tremendously for backlash, and seems a little more fool proof on my end.

    Miscellaneous Parts

OK. So payday is coming up, and its time for the next round of part orders.

Also, the C11 will be getting exchanged for a C32 BOB.

Here is my list so far:
    Mach 3

    Emergency Stop - CNC4PC

    RJ45 Limit Switches

    Oldham couplers: ?
I believe I need 16mm to 1/4" and 20mm to 1/2". Still trying to find these. Anybody have a suggestion?
    It looks like I might be able to use 1/4" to 5/8"(1/4" to 16mm NEMA 23 X and Y) and 1/2" to 3/4" (1/2" to 20mm - NEMA 34 Z).

RJ45 Connector for Keling Digital Driver

    Pro Tram System

    Grizzly Clamping Kit

Quick Change R-8 Collet Set: Is this ok?

    Dial Test Indicator

    Magnetic Base Dial Indicator

Any recommendations on a 5" vise?

LinearMotionBallscrews/Ballnuts: Is it possible/beneficial to run a double ballnut configuration?

Parallel Cable, On/Off Switch, enclosure, wire, and Ethernet cables will be picked up locally.

I have a couple computers I will be trying out with parallel ports.

Please chime in with your opinions on everything here, I can sure use some guidance.

If I am missing things (which I know I am), please let me know and I can order them up for the next round.

Im in the middle of my build with parts from bdtools (nut mounts and motor mounts) and linearmotion2008 too (made my life very easy)
Also I have an R8 Spindle and Tormach Tooling is great and spoken about
with pics on my thread too

Have a look through my build thread as Im sure it will help and I have info on the pocket you need to mill out on the saddle and how much I cut off the ballnut for clearance

I did not need any other cutting for clearance on mill base

If you want anything clearing up in your mind - ask with a post on my thread

Thank you for chiming in, John! I found quite a bit of helpful info there. I will be looking more seriously into the TTS. Also is looks like I will also need to drill out some oldham couplers, at least I now that is an option for my metric to US needs.

Yeh TTS is top notch mate.
Not got my oldham couplers yet however you may get the correct sizes in the US - you buy them in 3 parts and mix and match sizes
Id look into this if I was u as if you get the correct sizes no drilling.

I am searching around right now to try and get the exact sizes. It looks like oldham is a style and not really a standard, I have found the sizes I need but the mating ends would be incompatible. I feel like I am close

So much to learn here! As always, I appreciate the advice.

I was going to buy from Mcmastercarr in the USA but they binned me off
saying "McMaster-Carr only accepts orders from our established customers overseas."
I replied and asked how they got established customers overseas in the first place
if they binned off customers making a first order???

Anyway for you in the US
    Heres the link mate:

We are all still learning here too, some more advanced with their builds than others, some with encyclopaedic knowledge in their brains so post as many questions to these guy’s as you can….I do

Most definitely yes...however a suggestion here if you want to you could pack oversize steel balls into whatever ballnut you purchase and this will reduce backlash some what too.....I would give you some advice here as not to rush yourself in this whole process as me I'm just as guilty of the rushed jobs too..and some will say yup do the double nut config. now as you're at the build stage.... but you could fit your ordered single ballnut config. to get you up and running and start making chips and learning the software, and then use your CNC'd mill to make parts for your build.....the double ballnut config I'd guess is a must for any build so as to literally eliminate backlash (between the ballscrew and the ballnut) rather than just compensating for it within Mach or whatever controller you use...
and remember as I've also been reminded too that that's not the only source to induce backlash into a machine, loose gibs, loose tollerances between ballscrew bearing mounts etc....
and yup I'll be adding the double ballnut too at a later date to all three axis...

Well said Mad Welder - Im a rush type of guy too and the best thing Ive done so far is that I havent bought my electrics yet only the machanical gear.

I know for a fact if Id have had my electrics sitting there I would not have taken my time to do the jobs as right as they could be, Id have got a ginder out when I found it hard to get a machine shop to mill my saddle pocket
Plus would not have done a one shot oiler system as Id be too keen to finnish having them stepper motors winking at me........

If I could offer any advice to a newbie - buy your electrics when your mill is right in the way the machanic stuff - them electrics sitting there is too much temptation......

    Working for me......................

and the funny thing is I did the complete oposite as the electrical thingy was my biggest learning curve I wired and fitted the electrical using the stock leadscrews and nuts and got things mooooving.....started jumping with joy and then nearly cried because I had to then rip the machine apart

Grizzly and shars have ok 5 inch vises, I got mine from shars and it specs out great
but you should pick up a Glacern 4 inch if you have the cash.
The grizzly quick change collets look ok but you might want to get real ER collets that you can get all over.
An ER 25 or 32 set.
